Welcome to our site...

This is the website of Garrarus & District Concerned Residents (GDCR) who are opposed to the proposed development of Islandikane, Garrarus and Kilfarrasay in Co. Waterford by the developers Islandikane Developments Ltd.

GDCR is fighting to prevent the destruction of a beautiful area of Co. Waterford through the inappropriate and unnecessary development of a hotel, golf course and over 160 houses which is referred to as an “Integrated Rural Tourism Project”. This proposal is presently under consideration by Waterford County Council. It has been the subject of almost 300 objections including statutory bodies such as An Taisce, Dept of the Environment, Birdwatch Ireland, Irish Wildlife Trust and The Southern Fisheries Board.

The proposed site for development is located 6Km west from the town of Tramore. The site, comprising 222 acres, is on the coastal side of the road on a pristine stretch of Waterford coastline. For more information on the site and the proposed development please click here.

It is not an inappropriate analogy to compare this site with sites of such environmental and geological significance as the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare or the Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim. If such a development were proposed in either of these locations of special protection there would be public outrage. Though this site is less well known than these examples the designations protecting it are no less and as such it must be considered and protected similarly.
